What is Insomnia?

Insomnia, or as it is commonly known today as Sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder most people have, like me. The difficulty of staying asleep and falling asleep are the main causes of Insomnia but many things can contribute to Insomnia.

Insomnia can also be characterized as a psychological disorder, in which people are known to have thoughts going through their heads or being stressed, over worked and so much more.

But, insomnia is an actual disorder in which the persons body, mind, is unable to turn off the brain.

Chemical Imbalance?

Some would say that Insomnia is the sister to ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder, in which the person is unable to stay focused, is constantly in trouble OR they are very good at the following

  1. Technology
  2. Music
  3. Writing

Those are the top 3 with those with ADHD. Like myself, I am both Dyslexic and ADHD (Dyslexia will be a different post). The chemical “melatonin” is the bodies way of putting you to sleep so it can repair the body. In some people, melatonin is nonexistent.

So, What helps?

Prescribed Medications are great, if you got the right health plan, but in case you don’t, you can always visit your local drug store to pick up some melatonin or other sleep aid medications or OTC Melatonin. PLEASE, BE ADVISED, I do not recommended using ANTIHISTAMINES or Diphenhydramine as this can cause your sinus’ to dry out and cause harder breathing.

I have been using Melatonin 5 mg from Dollar General for about 3 months and have NOT had any type of side effect which is fantastic. Another good thing to try, if you are in the US is MidNite which is an all natural herbal supplement for sleeping.

You can also use herbal tea, usually those made with chamomile works wonders, but watch out for a small headache after you wake up.
