This post is about a Natural Disaster that happened on May 18, 1980…. 2 years before I was born.

What is Mount St. Helens?

Mount St. Helens is a Stratovolcano that is located in Skamania County, Washington. With Mount St. Helens, this eruption was one of many that were the worsts compared to Pompe.

In natural history, volcanoes are formed by the pressure of the magma (lava) that pushes upwards, in sometimes a fast motion causing minor earthquakes.

Mount St. Helens is part of the Ring of Fire, which is a ring of Volcanic activity in the Pacific Ocean which also includes the Islands of Hawaii. Have you ever seen the movie Dante’s Peak? This is like a movie about Mount St. Helens which to me, is a very impressive movie about a Volcano, it is a must see!

May 18, 1980

On the morning of May 18th, Mount St. Helens started to clear her throat in what would become, on of the worst eruptions ever recorded.

At 8:32:17 AM (Pacific Time), an earthquake caused a landslide on Mount St. Helens which resulted in one of the largest landslides ever recorded.
